We were the customer first.
The Clean Crate is women-founded, built by two women in tech who spent years working through early meetings and late releases — and who still had to answer the same question every single morning.

How it started
With a very ordinary problem: wanting to eat well without giving up taste, time or trust — and finding that almost nothing on the shelf managed all three.
There was health food that tasted like a penalty. There was something quick that stopped counting as breakfast by eleven. And there was a long middle ground of packs whose fronts said “natural” and whose backs listed things none of us could pronounce. Eating well rarely failed on intention. It failed on the small decisions between waking up and eating.
So we built the thing we wanted: a single-serve 60g pack with nine ingredients, every one of them printed on the front, that needs water or milk and a few minutes and nothing else. Rolled oats, whey isolate, dates and real fruit for the sweetness. No added sugar, no fillers, no claim we can't show you the source of.

What we're not doing
We're not here to sell food guilt, or an eating standard nobody actually keeps.
Every one of us has demanding work, a body to look after and a week that does not care about either. Nourishment should fit into that, not interrupt it. That is the whole design brief: easy to carry, simple to eat, and balanced enough that choosing it never feels like extra work.
It also means saying the inconvenient parts out loud. The protein is whey isolate, so this is vegetarian and not vegan. It contains nuts. Oats are naturally gluten free but ours are not certified, so if you are coeliac this is not the right breakfast for you. We would rather lose that order than imply otherwise.
